I personally find the 50s to be a fascinating era, so I appreciated the ability to live vicariously in it through Nellie. Overall, I thought Nellie’s timeline was a lot more interesting. She begins cooking these recipes, discovering clues along the way with the help of her neighbour about Nellie’s life. Here, she finds a cookbook belonging to 1950s housewife, Nellie Murdoch. In Recipe For a Perfect Wife, our two leading ladies – Alice and Nellie – are connected through a cookbook.Īlice moves to the New York suburbs with her husband, into a house in which someone was known to die. Perhaps even closer – though it belongs to a fantasy series – is the connection between Snape and Harry in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, where the two characters are connected through a potions book. Also published by Legend Press, this was a huge plot point in Cassandra Parkins’ The Summer We All Ran Away, where two timelines are connected through the house they live in. Generally, I enjoy anything to do with reconnecting with a figure from the past through a modern-day object. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for Recipe For a Perfect Wife! Thank you to Legend Press and Karma Brown for sending me a copy for review. Trigger Warning/Content Warning: miscarriage, abortion, sexual harassment, domestic abuse Please read the book first, then come back to hear my thoughts! Spoilers for Recipe are mentioned throughout, as they’re necessary for my review.
